Malaysia – Community Support Spotlight: Digital Literacy Partnerships.

Fondation Rolf Schnyder funds digital literacy programs for students in Malaysia through local partners, including Etania Schools and the Help Community Center. Programs are built on internationally recognized platforms, including Code.org and Scratch, adapted to each community’s classroom setting.

Local Partnerships.

Grant funding and learning resources go directly to organizations already working within these communities, including Etania Schools and the Help Community Center. Teachers are trained through our train-the-trainer model. As a certified Code.org Professional Learning Partner, we introduce structured learning pathways using Code.org and Scratch.

Human-Centred AI.

Alongside these learning pathways, these partnerships introduce HAIL™ (Human-Centred AI for Learning), our framework for navigating generative AI safely and critically, built around the principle “Think First, AI Second.” HAIL™ was designed to integrate into existing subjects rather than stand alone as an add-on. Teachers already have full timetables, without room for another subject on the side. Students learn to develop and strengthen human agency before turning to AI agents.

From Aid to Agency.

These partnerships are built on a shift from aid to agency: from providing resources to building the capacity to use them.

• Teacher capacity. Teachers are trained directly and supported with resources, both online and offline, rather than through direct grants.
• Flexible frameworks. Introductory computer science curriculum is adapted to fit each classroom’s own environment and resources.
