MALAYSIA – DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES SENIORS PROGRAM
Empowering Sarawak’s Seniors with Confidence, Safety, and Connection
The Digital Technologies Seniors Programme (DTSP), a flagship initiative of Fondation Rolf Schnyder, is transforming the lives of older Sarawakians by helping them navigate the digital world with confidence and security.
Launched in November 2021, DTSP brings together senior citizens and young Cyber Ambassadors from Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak in a unique intergenerational exchange. Seniors gain practical digital skills, while students receive invaluable life mentorship in return.
Today, DTSP has grown into a thriving ecosystem that supports seniors in their daily lives. Participants learn how to use online banking safely, identify and avoid scams, access government services, connect with loved ones through video calls, and find reliable healthcare information online. Many have shared that these skills have restored their independence, strengthened family connections, and significantly reduced their vulnerability to fraud.
A Strong Collaboration for Lasting Impact
DTSP is co-developed by Fondation Rolf Schnyder and Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak, with strong support from the Ministry of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development (KPWK). The initiative has received high-level endorsement from Fatimah Abdullah and is recognised nationally as an award-winning model for digital inclusivity.
Young Cyber Ambassadors are trained and empowered to design training modules and coach seniors in the safe, confident use of technology. In return, seniors provide valuable life mentorship. This reciprocal exchange fosters a strong sense of ownership and builds a sustainable, community-driven support ecosystem that enriches both youth and senior citizens.
Making a Real Difference
DTSP is more than a training programme — it is a sustained platform for empowerment.
From protecting themselves against scams to managing everyday digital tasks independently, seniors leave DTSP feeling more confident, connected, and capable of participating fully in today’s digital society.
DTSP’s impact is sustained year over year through its continued engagement with senior centres, community organisations, and institutional partners across Sarawak. By embedding digital skills training within these organisations and equipping local participants with ongoing support, the programme ensures that learning continues beyond initial sessions and becomes a lasting part of community life.
The initiative continues to expand, with new modules on emerging technologies and growing participation from senior organisations across Sarawak.
