Education for Undocumented Children in Sabah: A Partnership for Equity.
In Sabah, Malaysia, tens of thousands of undocumented and stateless children are excluded from the public school system.
Fondation Rolf Schnyder partners with Etania Schools, led by Dr. Kathryn Rivai, to build schools and teach life skills to these children.
Digital Literacy.
Rather than short-term workshops, Fondation Rolf Schnyder built a train-the-trainer digital literacy curriculum with Etania Schools.
- Approach. Etania’s educators are trained directly in digital skills and tools.
- Student leadership. Student leaders are trained alongside teachers. This builds leadership skills and preserves continuity if a teacher leaves.
- Continuity. The school’s own teachers and student leaders are trained. Digital literacy continues under Etania’s direction, not through outside workshops.
The Hope Learning Centre (Penampang).
The Hope Learning Centre was displaced from its original location near Kota Kinabalu. Fondation Rolf Schnyder funded a new campus, built from scratch, for its 260 students.
- Infrastructure. The new campus has 7 classrooms, with facilities and sanitation for students and staff.
- Curriculum. Students learn life skills alongside social and academic subjects.
Tenom School Infrastructure.
At the Etania School in Tenom, Fondation Rolf Schnyder funded new sanitation and classroom infrastructure for the campus, improving student health and attendance.
