Myanmar – The Lotus Clinic
In 2013, Fondation Rolf Schnyder co-funded construction of the Lotus Clinic in Hlaingthayar Township, Yangon, with the SANNI Foundation of Switzerland. The clinic opened in mid-2014. SANNI continues the project in partnership with Medical Action Myanmar, which provides local medical care.
The Foundation’s role was to help establish the facility. Ongoing clinical work has been carried out by the local partners.
Services
The clinic was set up as a community outpatient facility, open seven days a week, with a focus on:
- Paediatric care and treatment for childhood malnutrition
- Maternal and reproductive healthcare, including prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV
- Diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis and HIV
- Nutritional support and help with transport so patients could continue treatment
Historical snapshot
A 2016 record of the clinic’s work reported around 38,000 patients treated annually and more than 1,200 home visits for longer-term cases. These figures describe that period and should be read as historical.
